Venus Optics Laowa 9mm T5.8 Zero-D VV Cine Lens (E Mount) Laowa 9 mm T5.8 VV Cine Sony E gives full-frame and Vista Vision crews an extreme 134.8° rectilinear view while keeping barrel distortion around 2 %. The optic projects a 46.31 mm circle, covering Sony VENICE 2, α1, BURANO or RED V-RAPTOR with room for stabilisation. Despite the coverage, the all-metal barrel stays compact at Ø 84.8 mm × 78.5 mm and only 516 g, so gimbals, FPV drones and car arms remain nimble during high-speed moves. Inside, 14 elements in 10 groups—including aspheric and extra-low-dispersion glass—deliver corner-to-corner acuity, suppress lateral chroma and hold straight architecture without fisheye stretch. The 14-blade diaphragm maintains round bokeh discs from T5.8 to T22, handy for LED volumes where back-light can reveal iris shape. Multi-layer nano-coatings mitigate veiling flare, protecting contrast for HDR-driven workflows. Focus and exposure integrate seamlessly with cine accessories: dual 0.8 mod gear rings, 90° focus throw for repeatable pulls, and a 43.6° aperture arc for smooth light trims. Front diameter is a standard 80 mm, ready for clamp-on matte boxes; there is no filter thread to vignette the extreme angle. Close-ups start at 12 cm from sensor (0.21×), letting operators place foreground props smack against the lens for scale-bending shots. Focus breathing is negligible, so horizon lines stay level through racks. When productions demand immersive POVs inside cockpits, walk-throughs of confined sets, or parallax-rich drone plates, Laowa 9 mm T5.8 VV Cine supplies wide coverage, contained distortion and Sony-native mount convenience—no adapters, no extra back-focus shims. Supplied shims fine-tune flange for precision on VENICE 2 and FX9. Combine it with virtual-production LED walls, 8 K oversampling, or 12-bit RAW capture and obtain distortion-free plates that drop straight into stitching or real-time engines.
